One donor's story: Helen Rider
Helen was a foster parent for over 40 years to 58 children, so children were her life. Being open and affirming and loving were kind of the central things about her life. Her faith was very important to her. A life-long Presbyterian so her faith connected to what she did in the world, which was caring for others. She was a huge MN Twins Fan! To her it didn’t matter whether they won or not, they were her team. Helen loved music, Country (todays music was not real Country Music for her!) and Southern Gospel Music were her favorites. She loved theater, movies and musicals.
Our family knew that Helen would be a donor. Her mom had also been a donor (anatomical bequest) so it was a family tradition. She saw no value in keeping what she didn’t need any more, so it made sense. Her daughter will continue that family tradition of donation as well.
