One donor's story: Gary Wiederhoeft
Gary was a wonderful husband: intelligent, loving, and caring. We were best friends!
Gary was an avid gardener, chef, reader, and music lover. He turned our small yard into a showcase perennial garden, featuring daylilies. He also became an accomplished amateur chef, and liked to collect and try new recipes. Gary loved music, and he built an extensive collection of classical and jazz CD’s. Additionally, vacations ‘up North’ (Duluth, North Shore, Gunflint Lodge) were very important to him.
Gary was not a ‘registered’ donor, but we had discussed organ donation. His health had been failing for some time, and he ended up at HCMC due to a medical emergency. Extenuating circumstances precluded organ donation, but we were able to donate his eyes.
