One donor's story: Gertrude “Deanna” Thielen
Deanna was a beautiful soul. She cared deeply about her family which included her 5 children. She gave herself through her love for cooking and arts and crafts. Deanna was a laugher and loved to laugh. She was only 50 years young and left us all too soon! Her birth name was Gertrude but she went by Deanna. She would often say, “When I turn 90 you can call me Gertrude but, until that day, it’s Deanna, thank you very much”. Deanna gave everything she could to her family including her love for theme and tea parties!
Deanna’s children were the most important thing to her. She would do anything for those kids! Which included 4 girls and 1 boy. She was the break up specialist when the girls got let down by a boy and was always there to pick them up and dust them off. Offer a hot bath, some warm tea and countless affirmations. Her husband (I) was also very important to her even through some rough patches in an 8 year marriage. We always ended up as a team and could work through anything. Deanna and her love for family will be deeply missed.
Deanna was in need of a kidney herself and had stage 5 CKD. She was receiving dialysis and in fact passed at the clinic. Her being only 50 we had recently only begun discussing end of life possibilities. Her last wishes were to donate anything she possibly could, and I’m told her donations were enough to help 75 in need people! She was not a registered donor. She was still a giver to those in need even after her passing.
