One donor's story: Deb Highberg
My husband and I were married in 1979 . Because I was unable to get pregnant we adopted our oldest son Scott when he was six weeks old. At the age of forty I got pregnant with our youngest son Corey. God truly blessed us with two wonderful sons, one adopted and one by birth.
The most important things to me are my family and my faith. The strength that God continually gives me has gotten me through many tough times over the past eight years. I have learned from my son Scott that life is in God’s hands and that he has a plan for all of us.
Shortly after Scott’s 20th birthday we found out that he was in kidney failure and would need a kidney transplant. He immediately started dialysis. We knew that there was a long waiting list for donor kidney’s and that it could be several years before Scott received a kidney. After some heart issues that I had were resolved it was like God just said you are going to be a donor for Scott. I never doubted that I might not be able to be a donor. Even though I did not carry Scott and physically he is not a part of me, I am a part of him. God knew that Scott was going to need a kidney and he gave him to us knowing that I would be a match.
